Belle Miller Spivey Hood Obituary


Belle Miller Spivey Hood, 78, of Conway, SC died on December 14, 2012 at Grand Strand Medical Center after a brief illness.

Belle Miller was born in Conway to Mr. and Mrs. Collins A. Spivey. She was a 1951 graduate of Conway High School and in 1955 received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Erskine College in Due West, SC. She married Sebron Yates Hood, Jr. in 1956, and lived a happy and devoted life with Sebe until his death on December 17, 2010. Belle Miller was Past President and Chairman of the Board for Horry Land Co., Inc. in Conway. Through the course of her life, she was a proud member of multiple historical organizations including: Conway Chapter of The United Daughters of The Confederacy; Daughters of the Colonial Wars; First Families of South Carolina; Chicora Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century; and The Huguenot Society of South Carolina. She additionally served as Past Regent of The Peter Horry Chapter of The Daughters of The American Revolution. She was a Charter Member of both The Chicora Guild and The Ocean Forest Cotillion. She faithfully met with her friends in The Nautilus Book Club; The Pierian Book Club and The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Harriette H. Louis and husband Joe of Conway, and two sons, Sebron Y. Hood, III and wife Kimberly, of Plano, TX and C A Spivey Hood and wife Ashley, of Conway. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Miller Catherine Howard and husband Boggs, of Greenville, SC, Anne Caroline Bethea of New York, NY, Sebron Yates Hood, IV, Helen Elizabeth Hood and Meagan Alexandra Hood of Plano, TX, Sarah McLeod Hood and Emmelyn Edwards Hood of Conway, and one great-grandson, Robert Boggs Howard, Jr. She is also survived by a brother, C. Alex Spivey, Jr. and wife Pat of Litchfield Beach, SC.

The family would like to thank Drs. Terry Belden and Daniel Leibman for their exceptionally professional care. We are also indebted to her care givers, Ula Smith and Frances Parker for their loving care of Belle Miller throughout the past two years.

The funeral service will be held on Monday December 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Myrtle Beach. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service in the Parish Hall. Immediately following the funeral service, a graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Conway.
